Ongoing Support for Peace &  Sustainability

Roger C. Jones Peace & Sustainability Fund

The Sustainable SE Community Coalition (S2C2) established this fund to honor Roger Jone's legacy as a tireless champion for the Hawthorne Boulevard District and its historic buildings, and fostering sustainability in the area through the Hawthorne Area Civic Ecology (HACE) project. Roger was known for his role in starting the HBBA and the annual Hawthorne Street Fair. He was pivotal in helping to establish S2C2's nonprofit and was a champion for the peace pole projct which is celebrated on International Peace Day every September.

In 2018, Roger Jones, HBBA, MTNA, the Hawthorne Hostel and others initiated the celebration of the United Nations International Day of Peace with an installation of Peace Poles at SE 50th and Hawthorne.

This fund celebrates Roger Jones’s community involvement – as founder of the Hawthorne Boulevard Business Assn., a 29+ Year "Christmas Shipper" and a member of the initial Board of APNBA (the Alliance of Portland Neighborhood Business Assn.) now Venture Portland. His spirit continues to support and celebrate the vibrant Business Districts throughout the City.

For his love of Portland, his neighborhoods, his intention and to honor him for years to come, S2C2 established the “Roger C. Jones Peace and Sustainability Fund”.
